StarPlus is one of India’s most popular general entertainment channels. Its programming features family dramas, comedies, youth-oriented reality shows, crime shows, and television movies. Founded in 1991, Star Plus began broadcasting on 15 December 1991. It was originally part of a package called STAR TV, which also included Zee TV and BBC WSTV. In 1993, Star Plus switched its logo from blue to yellow and replaced the word “Star” with a pair of interlocking stars.
In September 2003, StarPlus began broadcasting in HD. Its logo was similar to the logos of Star Gold in the United States. The logo was changed to the current Star Plus logo on 15 April 2011. The slogan, “Star with a purpose,” became part of the new logo, and it was later changed to a rotating star in the United States. In February 2006, Star and Zee dissolved their partnership, and Star Plus became a Hindi-English GEC.
